Frequently asked questions

Why adopt the Bain de Nature eco-refill?

The 600ml eco-refill consists of at least 90% recycled plastic from coastal areas and contains 4 times less plastic (in G/ML) than the 400ml bath & shower gel, a simple routine, which helps reduce plastic consumption and contribute to coastal cleanup.

Is the eco-refill recyclable?

The packaging is fully recyclable.

Is it possible to fill my 400ml bottle?

It is possible to fill the finished 400ml bottle with the eco-refill. However, you must close the eco-refill cap to preserve the remaining formula and you must not mix the scents in the permanent bottle. We recommend that you use our new 600ml bottle, which can hold the entire 600ml refill and has a pump for optimal use.

How to use the Bain de Nature eco-refill?

To use your eco-refill, you have to remove the cap, then insert the refill into the bottle and let it flow. If you want to speed up the flow, pour by applying light pressure. Once the refill is empty, you just have to screw the pump of the bottle back on and your bath and shower gel is ready for use. Keep the cardboard until the end of use. Do not forget to recycle the refill, it is entirely recyclable.

Will the 400ml Bath & Shower Gel still be available?

Yes, the 400ml size will remain available.

What scents will be available in eco-refill?

7 scents will be available in February 2024 : Coconut, Argan & Rose Petals, Algae & Sea Fennel, Meadow Flower, Mango & Coriander, Raspberry & Peppermint, Oat & Buckwheat, Vanilla Bourbon.

What does OBP (Ocean Bound Plastic) mean?

Ocean Bound Plastic is a term that defines plastic that is "likely to end up in the ocean". There are three types of OBP plastic:

  • L’OBP potential (Potential OBP) : waste located up to 50km from the shoreline,

  • L’OBP fluvial (Waterways OBP) : waste located within 200m of rivers and in rivers,

  • L’OBP littoral (Shoreline OBP) : waste located within 200m of the shoreline.

The plastic used for the Eco-refill line is the « potential OBP ».

The OBP certification of a plastic guarantees:

  • that its material corresponds to one of the three plastics mentioned above,

  • that the actors of its collection have a management system of social practices (ages, remuneration, etc.)

What exactly is Plastics for Change?

Plastics for Change (PFC) is Groupe Rocher's OBP plastic supplier based in India. PFC is in charge of the waste collected by micro-entrepreneurs and transfers it to a company that converts it into plastic beads. PFC is OBP, GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and Fair Trade certified.

How can we be sure that the plastic collected comes from coastal waste and not, for example, from landfills or other sources that do not contribute to cleaning up natural areas?

The geographic collection area for plastic bottles sold to PFC is geolocated. . PFC is able to demonstrate the location of the collected plastic.

In addition, the fact that the plastic doesn’t come from official landfills is a requirement for OBP certification. The auditors check that the collection sites are not too close to these landfills.

How is plastic collected?

Plastic is collected by hand in India by local people.

PFC's Fair Trade certification ensures that waste collectors are properly compensated and therefore guarantee that they are not exploited.

In concrete terms, what does this practice bring to the collection countries?

This practice is a solution for recycling waste in countries where both, there is no collection of waste, but also, there is no recycling channel for this waste. In 2022, our partner PFC collected and recycled about 4,500 tons of plastic waste in India. In addition, our partner PFC is committed to the populations that collect waste by offering them training and providing them with infrastructure to improve their living conditions.

In addition, PFC has enabled 1,008 waste collectors to earn a decent salary in 2022. Training has also been provided to enable them to improve their management of this money.

The slogan of our supplier in India is "a humanitarian solution for an environmental challenge".

Doesn't the fact that companies collect plastic in exchange for financial compensation dissuade states/local authorities from setting up sustainable recycling channels?

No, the government is trying its best to integrate plastic collectors in the form of a formal contract. However, the reality is that local municipalities are not equipped to handle the large volume of waste generated and the stakeholders involved in the waste stream. Local municipalities appreciate PFC's efforts to manage waste and the quality of service provided to waste collectors. PFC, in turn, assists/registers waste collectors, sometimes without identification, to the benefit of the government, which can identify them. Overall, the approach is beneficial to all.

Is recycled plastic more expensive?

Yes, recycled plastic is more expensive (around 30% more expensive than non-recycled plastic, in 2023). OBP plastic sold by our partner PFC is also more expensive than non-OBP-certified recycled plastic (around 40% more expensive, in 2023), mainly because of the social actions deployed.

How much recycled plastic does it take to make an eco-refill or refillable bottle?

To make an eco-refill, you need 10 grams of OBP plastic and 1.2 grams of PE plastic for the cap. The refillable bottle requires 52.5 grams of OBP plastic for the bottle and around 10 grams of plastic mix.

Is the refillable bottle made entirely of recycled plastic or is it a mixture?

The bottle is made entirely of recycled plastic. The pump and the label of the refillable bottle are made of PP, the pump is made of metal and PP and the refill box is made of cardboard.

Why a refill that must be poured into another bottle instead of a ready-to-use bottle?

The reduction of plastic in the composition of the eco-refill (4x less plastic) makes it a very thin and fragile bottle in terms of practicality, which does not allow for optimal use on its own.
