It's all about providing a customized jar full of chocolate cake ingredients, along with a recipe. Here are the steps to follow:

1 - In an airtight jar, place the ingredients of your favorite chocolate cake recipe layer by layer (don't include perishables like butter or eggs).

Using Google Trends data, and our expert beauty intel, we’ve uncovered which provinces are lusting for beauty products during the holiday season and which prefer painting festive nails, pampering their (likely winter-dry) skin with luscious face cream, and more. Key Findings

 

  • Alberta and Ontario are the most interested in “beauty gifts” during that peakgift-buying frenzy from Black Friday until Christmas Eve (in 2020). 
  • Jingle smells, jingle smells (but smells good!): Perfume gift sets are uber-popular out west in British Columbia. 
  • Treat yo’ (moisturizing) elf:The gift of face cream is perfect for those living in the province of Quebec.
  • Residents of Alberta know what’s up: Albertians are big fans of face serum, which is key for healthy, hydrated skin. To the rest of Canada, take notes!

Toronto is also known for its great street-style, which adds to the idea that Ontarians love to look good and feel good, whether that be by using skincare and beauty products, or expressing themselves through their personal style.

We’ve chosen 10 of the most popular beauty products during the holiday season and uncovered which are searched comparatively more in each province than in any other provinces:

Body lotion, face serum, and eyeshadow palettes seem to be the three most popular beauty products in Canada. Plus, they make for great gifts!

 

Body lotion always makes for a great gift, especially in Canada. With the long winter months, body lotion is an essential all year round. Although Canadians often complain about the cold, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia know that there's nothing quite like coming in from the cold and getting into a nice warm bath, with a delectable hot chocolate in hand. Then, the best part is getting out and covering your body in your favourite body lotion. Whether you prefer a fresh scent, sweet scent, or festive scent, you’re left with soft, moisturized skin that will leave others wondering what that amazing smell is.

 

As for face serum, they can range from fancy and luxe to practical and fundamental. The truth is that most people should be using them either way! But don’t send the wrong message by gifting anti-aging serum. It’s like getting coal in your stocking! (Though, according to some sources, that gifting faux-pas may be one to overlook if it’s for your best friend or mom.) For instance, the makeup essential, lipstick, wasn’t nearly as popular as we thought it would be. Prince Edward Island might be the smallest province in Canada, but they know how to complete a makeup look. Lipstick is always a great addition to finish off a full face, but it’s also perfect for when you don’t want to put too much effort into your makeup. Adding a pop of colour to the lips gives that effortless, yet put together look. Perfect for when you’re in a rush, or simply having a minimal makeup day.

 

For those looking to sleigh the makeup game, you might be from Ontario, where makeup gift sets for women are tree-mendously popular. Whereas the classic eyeshadow palette is more for those from Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador, as mentioned earlier. 

The tried and true perfume gift set (basket, bundle, etc) is popular in British Columbia. But don’t give a set to those in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia - they keep it super simple for Santa and are just looking for body lotion. 

And hardly last on the list, but maybe the most important and essential product featured is face cream. Fun fact - whether you have dry, combination, or oily skin, face cream is key to having healthy skin. Make sure to pick one according to your skin type for optimal results. The province clamoring for some cream for hydrated skin this holiday season is Quebec.

  • We started by a simple Google Trends search of “beauty gift” in Canada for the period: 11/27/20-12/24/20. 
  • We then pulled the Canadian region-based data to understand which provinces have the highest comparative search volume. 

Which states search the most for “x” beauty products? 

  • We collected a list of 10 beauty products using Yves Rocher intel to uncover those most popular during the holiday season. 
    • Lipstick 
    • Eyeshadow Palette
    • Face Cream
    • Face serum
    • Perfume Gift Set
    • Makeup Gift Set
    • Body Lotion
    • Bath Set Gift
    • Hair mask
    • Nail Polish 
  • We then searched each “product” and collected the Google Trends region-based data to uncover in which province these products were the most popular. To understand in which province a product was most popular, the product that was searched more frequently in a province than other provinces was chosen as the most popular. 
  • This method does not indicate which product was searched for more than any other product, but rather which product was searched for more frequently in comparison to all other states in the nation. For example, search volume for “face cream” and “nail polish” was high across all provinces, but some provinces are more interested in less common items like a “bath set gift.” So, when we look at the comparison of interest, we uncover that, for instance, Manitoba may want other items but they REALLY want a “body lotion” more than any other province.  
  • In provinces with multiple products tied for “first,” we included all popular products in the results.

I. Foundation Brushes for a Smooth and Flawless Complexion

1. For your Foundation

When applying a cream or liquid foundation, we need:  Either a large flat brush that's round on the end (Foundation brush) and will blend everything together without leaving lines. Its bristles and shape help you easily blend the product onto your skin for an even complexion!

How to use? Place some foundation on your hand, on the brush or directly onto your face. Put some of the product onto the center of the face and blend it outwards in a back-and-forth movement, remembering to spread it to the hairline, the neck and around the nostrils to make sure that there are no lines.

Another option is to use a Foundation Sponge, which is the ideal accessory to apply foundation and liquid or cream concealers. Its pointed tip means you can be precise in your application: dark circles, around the nostrils... The rounded end perfectly evens out your complexion for a natural and adjustable look.

How to use? Lightly wet your Foundation Sponge and dry it with a clean cloth. Place a small amount of product on the sponge or directly onto your face. In this guide, we’re covering 7 tips and tricks to repair and prevent heat damaged hair, while preventing new breakage from happening.

1/ Lower the temperature on your hot tools.

While it’s better to skip the hot tools completely when your hair is heat damaged, we know that’s a big ask when changing up your hairstyle is so fun. What you can do without sacrificing your straightener or curling iron is turning down the temperature.

Many tools go up to 232 °C. That’s burning hot! Unless you have super thick hair that’s difficult to straighten or curl, you don’t need all that heat.

Start low and gradually increase the temperature to the perfect level for your hair (where you can get your desired look without all that damage).

Preventing damage from heat styling isn’t all about the temperature though. It’s also about how long you’re applying the heat to hair sections. You can lessen the damage by only passing through sections once on a section of hair for just a few seconds.

2/ Use a restorative hair oil.

Repairing heat damaged hair starts by protecting your hair from becoming more damaged.

Using hair care products that strengthen and repair your hair will go a long way in improving the appearance of heat damaged hair.

We recommend using leave-in conditioners, serums, and balms that are rich in restorative ingredients. Our Repair line is formulated with jojoba oil for intense hydration, and agave fructans for a healthy scalp.

After styling, reach for a hydrating hair oil, like the Multi-Purpose Flower Oil Bath, to nourish your heat damaged hair and strengthen the hair fiber. This will not only improve the appearance of split ends, it will also help prevent future damage.

3/ Be extra gentle with your hair when it’s wet.

Your hair is extra vulnerable to breakage while it’s wet, so it’s essential that you treat it with care.

Here are two things you can do to be gentle with your wet hair:

Towel dry your hair with care. Don’t be too rough with the towel when drying your hair. This will rough up the hair cuticle and leave your heat damaged hair looking and feeling frazzled. Instead, you can gently squeeze the excess moisture out of your hair. Even better, you can wrap your hair in a microfiber towel for the least amount of damage.

Be gentle with the hairbrush when your hair is wet. Use a wide-tooth comb that’s specifically meant for wet hair. Section off your hair, start at the bottom and gently comb out any knots, working your way up.

To avoid breaking off your hair while brushing, use a detangling conditioner in the shower to soften and strengthen.

4/ Deep condition to improve the appearance of heat damaged hair.

Giving your hair the TLC it deserves starts with letting your hair soak up a restorative mask.

Deep conditioners can penetrate the hair fibers to repair them deep down. On the outside, this transforms frizzy, dry, and brittle hair into soft, smooth, and healthy-looking locks.

Once or twice a week, apply an ultra-hydrating restorative deep conditioner, like this 2-in-1 Balm Mask, and leave it on for 3 minutes on wet hair or 10 minutes on dry or damp hair.

This mask is powered by jojoba oil to repair damage deep down, while agave fructans promote a healthy scalp.

5/ Use natural shampoos without harsh ingredients.

Healthy hair begins with the first step in your hair care routine—cleansing.

Lathering on a shampoo that has good-for-you ingredients will get you started in the right direction.

Using the right shampoo will help your heat damaged hair look and feel much better. Steer clear of harsh ingredients that don’t play well with heat damaged hair, like sulfates and silicones.

We turn to this ultra-repairing Balm Shampoo, which restores structure to the hair fiber and eliminates past damage.

After you’re done cleansing and conditioning your hair, blast your strands with some cool water to seal the hair cuticle, boost shine, and prevent damage. It may feel chilly, but it’s great for your hair!

6/ Always use a heat protectant before styling your hair.

If your hair is damaged from the heat, tackle the root of the issue with a heat protectant.

Applying a heat protectant to your hair before using a flat iron or curling iron will add a thermoprotective shield that defends against damage.

Bonus points for choosing a heat protectant that also works to repair brittleness from past heat damage.

7/ Get regular trims to snip off damaged split ends.

The best way to repair heat damaged hair is by starting fresh with a trim. Getting your split ends snipped off every 6 weeks will help keep your hair healthy. Damage travels up the hair strand. Once you have a split end, your hair is extra vulnerable and can easily split or break off.

Getting your split ends trimmed will cut off the problem at the source before it’s too late.

Regular trims will also help you grow your hair longer (if that’s your goal!), since keeping your hair strong and healthy will help your hair reach its full potential.

1 year on from the first lockdown discover the stories of three people who took advantage of this situation by showing resilience and inventiveness!

An unusual year

Whether you were in lockdown alone, with your loved ones or with friends, everyone experienced it differently. Faced with an unprecedented situation, people have shown resilience, drawing on their resources to be able to get through this difficult time as best they can. Some even managed to push themselves further. Here are the stories of Gabriella, Élodie and Fiorella, who made the most of it and showed us that a situation like this one can also be beneficial.

Gabriella, Yves Rocher Sweden, surpass yourself

To say that 2020 was a year of reconnecting to nature would be an understatement for me here in Sweden. As a true city girl with a constant need to travel the world and a desire for social interaction, the pandemic forced us all to become creative and let go of many things we thought were the norm and replace it with new possibilities. I have never been more grateful for the gorgeous Nordic nature and the proximity to the sea.

Beach vacations abroad turned into daily walks with my dog along the beach in silence, I started training to be able to swim in the cold sea even during winter without a sauna (and I achieved my goal, I now go for a swim three times a week in 4-degree water) and most importantly I realized that by reconnecting to nature, I was reconnecting to myself and what is important in life; health, the present moment and taking time for myself.

 

Élodie, Yves Rocher Belgium: getting out of your comfort zone

The first lockdown came as a big shock for me, I focused on myself a lot, on what I wanted to do, it gave me the opportunity to take some time to reflect and focus on the essential.

Moreover, at the start of the lockdown I had decided to quit my job after working there for 6 years. I had been very involved with some big changes and I was getting along splendidly with my lovely colleagues, but I wanted a change, I wanted to take new risks and get out of my comfort zone. I took the plunge and I think the lockdown accelerated things.

I had thought about Yves Rocher for a while now, a love brand with strong values. Its visionary, committed and authentic approach caught my attention. I also wanted to stay in Belgium, I’m French but I moved to Belgium during my studies, I did my first internship and started my first full-time job here. I had added value and knowledge of the Belgian and Dutch markets, so I wanted to continue down this path.

Given the situation, it was a decision that really surprised my family and friends. But at the same time, I have a go-getter and passionate side and I did all my interviews during the lockdown (from March to June if I recall correctly) and it was clearly this goal of getting the job and starting at Yves Rocher that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the first lockdown! In the end, I accepted the job without meeting anyone in person, without ever even visiting the offices!

The second lockdown arrived soon after, and I found myself working from home. It forced me to reach out to others and build good relationships with my team, my management and HQ, as well as other managers from different countries. I’m sure that working from home can also bring people together.

Fiorella, Yves Rocher HQ: discovering a new passion

Lockdown gave me the opportunity to learn more about myself and to discover new passions. One that I’m very passionate about is watercolor, which I discovered thanks to my best friend. A sudden feeling of calm washes over me when I’m painting, and time flies. It lets me express my creativity and stay in the moment. I love being able to give my paintings to loved ones, it’s a unique gift!

I started painting in June and continue to do it regularly, as soon as I find the time or sometimes for entire days! I started by doing rough drafts: first digitally with Photoshop, then on paper by choosing my color palette. Some of my friends and family have started asking me to do paintings for their homes with a theme, for example animals or nature, I’ve been able to paint several of them as baby shower gifts (there have been a lot around me lately!), which always gives me great joy!

2020, the recycled plastic revolution!

A new initiative in favor of the environment

For the Yves Rocher Brand, beauty has never been frivolous. As it is essential in the lives of women and men, we strive for it to be aware, thoughtful, and committed.

5 years ahead of the European directive.

While a European directive requires, by 2025, the use of 30% recycled plastic in the bottles sold, 5 years ahead of the 2025 deadline, we have been working to ensure that, as of today, all of the bottles leaving our factories are made of 100% recycled and recyclable PET for a cleaner world.
 
This does not include plastic for service caps, labels and pumps for which we continue to work on integrating recycled plastic. Our nail polish remover bottles which are not currently made of PET for compatibility reasons are still recyclable and we are working on alternatives.

Since the production of our 2020 Christmas line was launched prior to the implementation of this measure, its bottles contain 25% recycled PET.

Nothing is lost, everything can be transformed.

These bottles will improve the green rankings of our hair care line. These new ones are coming soon, and it will be impossible not to notice them. They will be stand out because of the color of their packaging, slightly grayer but so much"greener"!

We wanted to share our pride in being a sustainable player. However, we are aware that there is still a lot to be done and we are not afraid to roll up our sleeves to do more and do it better.

Eco-design, a necessity for results at the heart of our business.

We produce about 135 million bottles per year. According to our 2020 sales estimates, this means that the brand will avoid, thanks to this innovation, around 2,700 tonnes of virgin plastic!

By 2025, our goal is to reduce our packaging to the bare essentials as much as possible.

With this conviction, we are always evolving in a way that is in line with our values, which are to protect the environment and living things, in order to limit our environmental footprint. “Our goal is not to be the best company in the world, but the best company for the world.” This message hammered home by Bris Rocher, Chairman, and CEO sums up the DNA and commitment of the brand.

Think about it, every time you put plastic bottles in recycling bins you are contributing to giving it a new life, it is material that we use to make our bottles. Choosing 100% recycled and recyclable PET means taking part in a circular, sustainable, and responsible economy.

We are counting on you to give the movement even more momentum!

*Since October 2020, 100% of the bottles that leave our factories are made of 100% recycled and recyclable Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), with the exception of service capsules, labels and pumps.

At the forefront of sustainable development

In the wake of Mr. Yves Rocher, our founder, pioneer, visionary, and avant-garde ecologist, our brand took on environmental issues very early on. In this field, plastic is a major subject for our company, which has paid particular attention to the eco-design of our packaging for many years.

  • In 2006, ten years before they were banned, the Yves Rocher Brand made the forward-thinking decision to remove plastic bags from its stores.
  • In 2009, the brand launched its first products using 25% recycled PET.
  • Since 2010, we have reduced the weight of our plastic packaging by 20% (by gram of plastic per litre of product sold).
  • In 2017, we developed 2 patented innovations: concentrated products, a line of concentrated shower gels, and a concentrated shampoo, in smaller bottles that consume less petrol and fossil fuels. These innovations alone represent savings of 195 tons of plastic (up to May 2020), since their launch and a reduction of more than 30% in greenhouse gas emissions (compared to the packaging of a 400 ml bath & shower bottle or a 300 ml shampoo bottle).
  • 2019, the Yves Rocher Brand relaunched its hair care line with 100% recycled and recyclable PET bottles.
