Let the Sunshine in!

How to protect your skin as soon as the first rays of sun appears!

How do I protect my skin from the season’s first rays of sun?

The first rays of sun are peeking through the clouds and even though summer has not officially started yet, the sun can't wait. So now is the time to begin protecting your skin!

Stay Hydrated!

We know the great weather just makes you want to run outside and get some sun, but don't forget that any exposure to the rays is not without consequence. Your skin has to be prepared. So it's important to keep hydrating it just as often in the winter with the right skincare product to prevent any signs of dryness. You cannot skip this step if you want to prepare your skin as much as possible for a gorgeous tan.

When your skin is hydrated, then you can apply an oil or tan activator mist to make your body feel fresh and silky smooth.

What skincare does my skin need?

This is the big question every year: which skincare products are the best choice for my skin? It’s a common misconception that you won’t get tan if you wear SPF 50. Even when your skin is protected, it is being exposed to the sun and that comes with both benefits and drawbacks.  For example, the sun is a cause of premature aging of the skin, so don't overdo it and do protect yourself well.

Even if it's not July yet, the sun is already beating down and your skin may need daily protection. You can do this by choosing your sun care based on your skin type and where you live.

Keep Good habits

As soon as the sun starts shining again, get back to and get into good habits.

  • Keep moisturizing your skin morning and night and, if needed, apply sunscreen before going outside. You can mix your moisturizer with sunscreen or start using a moisturizer that contains SPF.
  • Drink a lot of water every day to make your skin radiant and try to eat more fruits and vegetables that are rich in beta carotene like carrots, tomatoes, green veggies such as zucchini and peas, apricots and mangoes. They will help beautify your skin before hitting the sun.

Now you're all set to take full advantage of the season’s first rays of sunlight without guilt or taking any risks. Your skin will thank you!

And don’t forget these good sunning habits for your summer vacation:

  • Avoid peak sunlight times between noon and 4:00 PM.
  • Choose sun care products that are made for your type of skin.
  • Reapply sun products every two hours and after swimming.

How about you? What's your sun protection routine?

Monoi oil is summer’s crown jewel!

Everything you need to know on this iconic fragrance!

The Monoi product line is legendary at Yves Rocher. It has been evolving over the last 30 years to meet women’s every needs!

Its star ingredient has always been Tiare flower. A closer look at the star of summertime, the harvest and how it’s used for beauty.

Monoi oil has a Protected Designation of Origin

Traditional Tahitian Monoi oil (Monoi de Tahiti) is part of an ancient beauty ritual for Tahitian women. It is synonymous with skincare, naturalness, and a heavenly scent that instantly transports you to the idyllic Polynesian Islands.

For more than 30 years, Yves Rocher has been supplying its monoi oil from a sustainable source. The delectably scented tiare flowers are harvested by hand as buds in the early morning, to best preserve their freshness. A controlled, precise procedure is used to transform them into monoi oil whereby they are infused in copra oil (sun-dried coconut pulp) for 10 days.

The Tiare flower that is only found in Polynesia and is used to make Monoi de Tahiti products is certified and protected with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). This designation guarantees that it is authentic, high-quality and locally produced.

The beauty secrets of Tahitian women inspire different ways of using monoi oil

Monoi oil is widely known to bring out a perfect tan with dry precious oils that leave the skin silky smooth and beautifully bronzed. No surprise that it's the summer’s best-selling product year after year!

But lucky for us, monoi oil does more than just create a gorgeous tan!  It gives you a chance to prolong the tropical island fragrance with one of the brand's most acclaimed products Lagoon Hair & Body Wash because Yves Rocher figured out how to bottle that magical dream vacation scent. Not only does monoi oil smell great, it also makes your skin soft and supple plus leaves a delicate fragrance on your hair. So give yourself a relaxing break and get swept away to the islands (especially if you're spending the summer at the office)!

Want more? Not worries, we have something for everyone. Monoi oil is also amazing for your locks because it works on all types of hair! In fact, it's pretty common that after a swim in the ocean, the salt and sand makes your hair dry and damaged.

Once again it’s monoi oil to the rescue because it protects it when you apply it on the lengths and ends of your hair. There is no doubt about it, the women of Tahiti have known this beauty secret for generations!

To recap, monoi oil is your ideal ally for the sunny season, so find your favorite monoi product and enjoy it to the fullest!

Did you know? The Monoi line made its first appearance at Yves Rocher in 1988.

Keep your sunkissed tan all summer long!

Our tips to maintain your sunkissed complexion!

Follow all of our tips to achieve a beautiful tan this summer and discover all of our tricks to maintain it all summer long!

1/ Exfoliate

Exfoliating well twice a week (1 week after returning) is a must to maintain your tan! Contrary to popular belief, this will not get rid of your tan; rather, it will make it more radiant by removing dead skin cells.

Our favorite products? The Konjac Body Sponge and the Konjac Face sponge, which are 100% plant-based. Thanks to the micro-exfoliating power of Konjac fibers, they provide a pleasant and gentle cleansing experience.

2/ Moisturize

All year long, you made sure to moisturize your skin well. Don’t lose the habit!

Start by washing your body with the Nourishing Cleansing Cream for Very Dry Skin, enriched with oat extract, which will deeply yet gently nourish your skin.

Then apply the Monoi-Scented 3-in-1 Moisturizing Lotion or the Traditional Tiare Oil to moisturize and enhance your skin with the sweet scent of summer vacation.

For your face, opt for the After-Sun Beautifying Anti-Aging Care, which will moisturize your skin while preventing premature wrinkles, which can be caused by prolonged sun exposure.

The Ultra-Moisturizing Liquid Serum and the 48-Hour Non-Stop Moisturizing Gel Cream will provide your skin with intense hydration, thanks to edulis.

Tips: In addition to moisturizing your skin, be sure to drink lots of water—at least 8 glasses a day.

3/ Food nourished by the sun

Fruit and vegetable season isn’t over yet, so keep enjoying their benefits for a healthy glow! Eat plenty of carotenoids, which stimulate your skin’s melanin. These can be found in carrots, melons, watermelon, apricots, red peppers, tomatoes... so many to choose from!

You can consume them however you like,  whether fresh, in smoothies, in salads... Be creative!

4/ Glowing make-up

Maintain your sun-kissed skin all summer on your face with these tips!

A little touch of our Bronzing Powder, which will give your complexion a natural, healthy, glowing effect.

And the bonus? Its monoi scent, which will make you reminisce about your vacation. Summer never ends!

Use your Powder Brush to mix the 2 shades together in a circular motion. Then apply it by drawing the number 3 on your face: from the forehead to the top of the cheekbone and then down along the contour of the face.

Every day

My day starts with the right skin care routine and a make-up look which reflects my mood (and matches my outfit) As I tend to have an oily t-zone, I wash my face with lukewarm water and the Sebo Végétal Purifying Cleansing Gel. It frees the skin of excess sebum without drying it out.

Afterwards, I’m using one of my favorite products: the 48H Non-Stop Moisturizing Gel Cream. This lightly textured, liquid gel cream penetrates quickly, hydrates the skin intensively and comes without any colorant, mineral oil or parabens.

From time to time I give an extra hydration boost to the contour of my eyes – the Anti-fatigue Moisturizing Fresh Gel is a real life-saver when it comes to fighting those dark circles that tend to appear after a long night out.

My beauty tips

Especially during summer I try to avoid foundations and only use some bronzing powder to warm up my complexion. I highly recommend the Bronzing powder duo which can be easily applied with a powder brush.

"On a bad day there's always lipstick" is my make-up mantra because I simply LOVE lipsticks!

My current favorites are from the Grand Rouge Mat collection. To have a longer lasting result, you can apply a matching lip liner and some fixing powder at the end. As my make-up look is all about the lips, I only use some mascara (ok, a lot of mascara actually ) and eye liner – my favorite products are the Vertigo Volume Mascara and the Vertige Felt Tip Liner.  That’s it !

Allergies, irritation… how to prevent reactions?

On vous dit tout sur comment les éviter !

Have you ever wondered how our experts prevent risks of allergies or irritation when they formulate your favorite products? We’re here to explain it all to you!

Allergic reaction and irritation: what’s the difference?

Don’t confuse an allergic reactions with irritation!

An allergic reaction appears upon contact with a molecule, called an allergen, and manifests itself with a delay. It extends well beyond the area of contact with the product.

Irritation, on the other hand, is due to the use of a cosmetic product not suited to one’s skin type. It appears immediately and is limited to the area of contact. Irritation disappears when you stop using the product, while an allergic reaction may take longer to heal.

First step: the formulation

The formulation step is crucial! To limit risks of allergic reactions, we do not use raw materials known for their allergenic potential (and yes, some are very well-known) in our formulas. Instead, we choose ingredients not reputed to be sensitizing.

The same applies for irritation. When formulating a product, we exclude ingredients known to be irritating. But it’s important to know that it’s all a matter of the dose. An ingredient may be irritating at a certain dose, but not in the concentration present in the product. We take the concentration of the ingredient in the product into consideration, as well as the general conditions of use, for example if a product is used in a treatment or gets rinsed off (for example, a shower gel).

Therefore, the formulation step is vital, but we don’t stop there: once the product is formulated, we move on to tolerance and safety tests!

Second step: time for testing!

We evaluate the safety of each ingredient through our toxicology experts, and we test each of our formulas to verify it is truly safe and can be tolerated, under the supervision of a dermatologist.

It is only during this stage of development that one can judge if a formula can be tolerated, taking into account the formula, its use, and the target population for which the product is intended (for example, women with sensitive skin).

But that’s not all! With our customer service department, we are constantly monitoring our products thanks to your feedback!

Risk-free doesn’t exist!

Our products are formulated to minimize the risk of allergic reactions and irritation due to their use... but the concept of “risk-free” doesn’t exist.

In fact, with allergic reactions, it’s a bit like Russian Roulette: it’s extremely rare and individual. Each person can be allergic to something different, and everyone may react differently to the same allergen... and the reaction to an allergen isn’t necessarily immediate.

In short, measuring the risk is rather complicated. Therefore, avoiding ingredients known for their allergenic potential remains the most effective way to limit the risk!

At Yves Rocher

Since product safety is a major priority, all of our products undergo, without exception, a rigorous testing and monitoring process during each stage of the product’s life: from its formulation, where we exclude ingredients known for their irritating or sensitizing nature, to the choice of packaging, all the way to the moment it arrives at your doorstep!
