The new Elixir Botanique line

Land & sea; the glow of stronger skin.

Land & sea, the glow of stronger skin.

After 25 years of plant and marine biotechnology research, the new Elixir Botanique line brings together the best extracts that the land and sea have to offer.

  1. What are the extracts in the line?

This botanical innovation was born in Brittany by bringing together two powerful and natural extracts: Nasturtium & Tetraselmis Micro-Algae.

A closer look at the Nasturtium from Brittany.

The Nasturtium is grown organically on Yves Rocher land in La Gacilly, Brittany. This farming method stands out thanks to the use of sustainable agricultural practices as well as a strong commitment to respecting the land.

In nature, Nasturtium uses its large round leaves to optimize photosynthesis and oxygen production. Deep within skin, Nasturtium boosts the oxygenation of cells to revitalize them.

A closer look at Tetraselmis Micro-Algae

Our scientists have developed a true expertise surrounding the cultivation of tetraselmis micro-algae, allowing us to ensure a high quality extract while preserving oceans. It is grown in photobioreactors off the Brittany coasts. That way, we don't take anything away from nature.

Found in the plant plankton family, Tetraselmis Microalgae helps to remove pollution from the air by capturing the CO2 it needs for photosynthesis. When applied to skin, it stimulates the detoxification mechanisms and helps to fight against the harmful effects of pollution that accelerate skin aging.

2. Presentation of the product line

The fortifying antipollution daily serum unclogs skin and protects it against the harmful effects of pollution that cause premature skin aging. Its watery, micro-pearl and moisturizing texture instantly melts onto skin, providing it with a boost of oxygen, just like a breath of fresh air.

Then, there's the repairing antipollution day care helps reinforce the effects of the serum. After just 1 month, fine lines and wrinkles appear reduced, skin is repaired* and strengthened, it looks healthy and glowing.

At night, it's time to apply the recovery sleeping care with its smooth gel texture. From the first morning, skin is better able to breathe, it feels plumped and looks reenergized.

The radiance anti-fatigue roll-on is a targeted eye contour product with a fresh gel texture. Its roll-on applicator allows for a gentle eye contour massage. The eye contour area is instantly moisturized, luminous and protected against pollution. Fine lines and wrinkles appear visibly reduced. After 1 month, dark circles are less pronounced, the eye contour area is revived, and looks radiantly healthy.

The night recovery serum restores your skin's radiance day after day. With a dual-phase microdroplet texture, this night cream combines sensoriality with effectiveness. After 1 month, the skin is revitalized and fortified.

3. What are the benefits of the line?

An ultra-natural product line composed with up to 99% ingredients from natural origin to provide skin with daily protection against the harmful effects of pollution:

  • Strengthens
  • Boosts radiance
  • Moisturizes
  • Delays the appearance of signs of aging

4. Is it replacing another line?

It is. Say goodbye to Elixir Jeunesse, and hello to Elixir Botanique!

If the Elixir Jeunesse is a product line you used and loved, rest assured, the Elixir Botanique line will provide you with the same benefits but was formulated with even more revolutionary botanical extracts. Don't wait, try it now!

Microalgae

Microalgae, infinitely small, yet capable of so much.

Infinitely small, yet capable of so much.

The origin of our plant.

It was over 20 years ago, on the surface of the ocean off the Brittany coast, that we discovered a form of green microalgae with exceptional oxygenating* and antioxidant* properties.

Although infinitely small, its benefits are immense. In southern Brittany, in close proximity to this aquatic wonder, our marine biotechnology experts have developed a cultivation method that is natural and responsible.

Photobioreactors filled with sea water are used, in which temperature and light are controlled, allowing the microalgae to develop optimally, away from external climate-related risks.

The genius of plants: protection and oxygen

Exceptional microalgae

Did you know that microalgae produce the highest levels of oxygen on the planet? It was with this knowledge that our researchers explored the marine world to find THE natural solution to skin damage caused by pollution.

This was how we discovered a type of microscopic green algae with incredible virtues that forms part of the phytoplankton, the microscopic plants that live suspended in the water.

True geniuses of nature, microalgae have the capacity to transform light energy into oxygen: a phenomenon known as photosynthesis. This means that they help to clean the air by capturing carbon dioxide (CO2), the gas responsible for the greenhouse effect.

In nature, these algae have the particularity of being able to move towards the light, optimising their photosynthesis and therefore their energy production.

Our extract

A wave of oxygenation for your skin

We have taken the best from these microalgae: a genuine concentrate of marine virtues for your skin. The result is an extract with oxygenating*, detoxifying* and antioxidant* properties.

To obtain this extract, we multiply the microalgae in a natural way, concentrating and fragmenting them to release their mineral-rich content. The final extract is then stabilised in sea water. Our philosophy being: nature, always nature.

Do you have normal to combination skin that is tight, dull and lacking hydration? Discover our extract in the Cleansing Pure Algae range of products with hydrating*, oxygenating* and fortifying* properties. And for even more radiance, discover the powerful combination of Earth-Ocean natural extracts: green Microalgae and Nasturtium in our Elixir Botanique product line.

1st prize: Claire Clément, the sense of female solidarity

Claire Clément, is based in Senegal in the little village of Korientine. Her prize tells us a story of feminine solidarity: to support the economic activities of the women in the village, she has established, activities around harvesting honey, extracting essential oils, and planting trees to protect local biodiversity, but also to help women in the village through work.

In Korientine, the honey is extracted with respect for the hives, the bees, the environment, but also for the beekeepers. Nature is recovering its rights here... and women are too.

Nasturtium, a plant, found across Yves Rocher's Elixir Botanique range

The Origin of our Plant

Brittany is the perfect environment for Nasturtium to thrive. We've been growing it since 1980 in our homeland La Gacilly, using a traditional crop system designed to achieve the highest quality whilst respecting biodiversity.

The Nasturtium is grown using sustainable agricultural practices, a farming method based on a deep understanding of ecosystems that supports biodiversity. This plant has the ability to cover the soil, thus limiting water evaporation, a precious gift in the summer. Our early crop system, with sowing starting in April, allows us to preserve even more water.

Our organic and sustainable farming model has allowed us to obtain UEBT certification for our Nasturtium, as well as the rest of the ingredients we grow at La Gacilly.

Plant genius - softness

Over time, when exposed to environmental factors, both skin and hair can over time become dull, lackluster and not as soft. Calendula, an ornamental and medicinal plant, is traditionally used for its softening properties and is known for its soothing and antioxidant properties.

Our Botanical Beauty® researchers have developed a process for extracting ingredients from calendula, which allows them control every stage of production, from the field to your skin. These ingredients are then incorporated into certain Yves Rocher products, either for hair or skin care.

Calendula, Yves Rocher's beautiful orange flowers

Plant origin

Originating from the Mediterranean region, Calendula was one of the first plants to be grown by Yves Rocher on its native land of La Gacilly, Brittany, in 1979. Its cultivation process has been carefully set out in order to guarantee the best ingredients while preserving biodiversity. Sown in the fields in April, it does not require a lot of water to blossom and the flowers are then harvested by hand in July and August.

The stems and leaves are then crushed and reincorporated straight back into the soil. Our organic and sustainable farming model has allowed us to obtain UEBT certification for our Calendula, as well as the rest of the ingredients we grow in La Gacilly. Crushing and incorporating the stems and leaves of Calendula into the soil creates a large supply of minerals that are beneficial for all those that live within it.

Come and explore our botanical water workshop and discover how we make our hydrolates. A 100% Yves Rocher, 100% local production!

A new link in the Yves Rocher expertise chain, 100% local.

Committed for over 60 years, the Yves Rocher Brand defends a beauty that is ever more respectful of Man and the planet and ever closer, too, to each and every one of us. Driven by these values, the French's favorite beauty brand*, a responsible player in its environment, has chosen to set up its very first distillation workshop to manufacture its botanical waters (or hydrosols) locally, as close as possible to its production units.

These waters come from local plants cultivated by organic farming and agroecology in La Gacilly, the cradle of the Brand in Brittany. The Botanical Water Workshop is in perfect harmony with La Gacilly’s unique and virtuous panel of experts, from the seed to the beauty product.

The botanical waters produced at Yves Rocher’s Botanical Water Workshop are used in the composition of some of our products, which are also made close by, at the Villes Geffs plant in La Gacilly and Rieux. A local circuit means fewer CO2 emissions linked to the transport of goods for a more limited environmental/carbon/ecological footprint and local made in La Gacilly roots.

Yves Rocher's Pure Camomille Line

How are our Botanical Waters produced?

To obtain 1 ton of hydrolat, it takes 2 hours of distillation, followed by 40 minutes of filtration and pasteurization.

Do you know the difference between hydrolat, floral water, plant water or botanical water?

Hydrolat is a general term for any aqueous substance that results from the distillation of flowers or other parts of a plant. Floral water only comes from the distillation of flowers (buds).

At the Botanical Water Workshop, we distill Peppermint leaves as well as the flowering tops of Cornflower, Romain Chamomile and Matricaria Chamomile, because their properties are present in the entire plant.

So, we don’t actually produce floral water butbotanical waters or plant waters, the term hydrolate can also be used.

Plant Genius : Hydration

Our botanists and phyto-analysts have found the best plant-based response to meet the challenge of skin hydration. After extensive research, they turned their attention to Edulis, a plant that contains a powerful moisturizing extract: cellular water.

An agronomic and phyto-analytical study allowed us to determine the best harvesting period and the best extraction process. Cuttings are made in March and, after only 6 months of growth in the greenhouse, the tender shoots of the plant, full of cellular water, are harvested just before flowering.

The ultra-fresh plant then goes directly onto the exclusive and patented extraction stage, solvent-free, in order to preserve the environment and the effectiveness of this extract. Thanks to a natural process in 5 steps (shredding, pressing, decanting, clarification and stabilization), cellular water.

The Origin of Our Plant

Originally from South Africa, this plant is now present on the coasts of many regions of the world. Yves Rocher’s plant biology laboratories chose, in 2012, to grow Edulis where the Brand was created, at La Gacilly in Brittany.

It is grown in greenhouses, to control the growing and propagation conditions. Our organic and sustainable farming model has allowed us to obtain UEBT certification for Edulis and all the rest of the ingredients we grow at La Gacilly.

As a participant in the preservation of the biodiversity and ecosystems of Brittany, we work in close collaboration with the National Botanical Conservatory of Brest. In 2017, we supported a study establishing an inventory of Edulis in Brittany: distribution, ecology and methods of controlling its spread at the expense of local flora. In addition, the Yves Rocher Botanical Gardenin La Gacilly is home to approximately 20 threatened or endangered plant species from Brittany, France and around the world.

La Gacilly Photo Festival 2022

Faithful, we are. As the first sponsor of La Gacilly Photo Festival, we are proud to have supported this event that honours photography, humanity, and nature, each year since 2004.

The La Gacilly Photo Festival welcomes the public outdoors, over a summer, on our Breton land, in the heart of the village of La Gacilly.

There, where everything began, where our commitment started, where it continues. Protecting and regenerating biodiversity has always been at the heart of our commitments. It’s only natural that we would support the representation of these values through images.

From Iran, Afghanistan, or Pakistan, all of these visual artists recount, through so many stories, the state of the world, but also and especially, the beauty of our planet and the need to protect it.

And because loving nature also means thinking of the future and future generations, the other part of the festival, entitled “The world of tomorrow” displays in photographs the talents that have immortalised the jewels of biodiversity.

From the French Southern and Antarctic Lands to Bangladesh, or from the Democratic Republic of Congo to India, these images awaken our conscience, our emotions, and even more still, our love of nature.

BOTANICAL

LATIN NAME: Mesembryanthemum crystallinum

COMMON NAME: Ice Plant

FAMILY: Aizoaceae

ORIGIN: Southern African desert areas

Ice Plant image, an ingredient used in Yves Rocher's Filler Végétal collection.

ADAPTATION: THE GENIUS OF THE BOTANICAL

Native to the desert areas of southern Africa, the Ice Plant can adapt to extreme conditions. Over the centuries, it has spread as far as Australia, the American coast and the Mediterranean periphery.

Contrary to other plants that carry an average of 2 sets of chromosomes, the Ice Plant has up to 128! It has such a complete set of genetic information that it has the power to adapt to every situation. This exceptional characteristic, called polyploidy, has facilitated over time its "super adaptation" on the metabolic, physiological and morphological levels. It resists, survives, lives. It is the Plant of Life.

Ice Plant image, an ingredient used in Yves Rocher's Filler Végétal collection.

THE ORIGIN OF OUR PLANT

Adaptable, the Ice Plant can grow in all latitudes. This allows Yves Rocher to cultivate it on its own land in La Gacilly, France. It’s the best way to study it, follow its growth and control its biological culture.

Since 2008, agronomic and phytological studies have been conducted to determine the best growing conditions (watering, sowing density, sanding, etc.) and the optimal harvesting period. Result: the Ice Plant is sown in the spring and harvested around July, after a cultivation period of 10 to 13 weeks, when it is richest in compounds of interest.

Conserving BioDiversity

Always at the Heart of our Actions!

Always at the Heart of Our Actions

In a time of climate change, biodiversity conservation has become a vital issue. A true nature lover and aware of the priceless wealth of the La Gacilly land of his childhood, Mr. Yves Rocher was always aware that it was essential to conserve the precious and fragile balance of the living world.

This forward-looking conviction has guided the way we grow our plants and produce our care products with the greatest respect for nature. Today, more than ever, we unceasingly include conservation of biodiversity in the way we work and act, thus proving that responsible beauty is possible.

Conserving Plant Diversity

Responsible Growing and Production Processes

At La Gacilly, the birthplace of our brand and the place we grow our botanical ingredients, we have striven since our beginnings to preserve nature which offers us so much in return.

Agroecology, organic farming, research, etc., we deeply respect the natural rhythms and ecosystems. The way we grow our plants for example (Chamomile, Cornflower, Calendula, etc.) guarantees their quality while improving soil fertility and increasing plant diversity of our land.

Our 9 emblematic plants have also been UEBT* certified (to ensure sourcing that respects people and biodiversity) since 30 July 2021. In this context, we have devised a strategy to concretely assess our actions for conserving and preserving biodiversity.

A Precious Botanical Garden

Created in 1975, our Botanical Garden, covering 2 hectares of land at La Gacilly, is a true open-air laboratory. We keep and study over 1,500 plant species there and share our knowledge with over 200 Botanical Gardens around the world. A real treasure, as well as a “Host Garden” for rare and threatened plant species.

This unique place benefits from several certifications, including that of the Jardins Botaniques de France et des pays francophones (Botanical Gardens of France and French-speaking Countries) and a Botanic Gardens Conservation International membership.

The Yves Rocher Foundation Committed For The Living World

But our commitment goes well beyond our land at La Gacilly: as the leading patron of the Yves Rocher Foundation, for 30 years we have supported its actions in favor of biodiversity. We are especially proud of having celebrated at its side, the 100 million trees planted around the world thanks to its Plant for Life program.

Its new target: plant 35 million trees by 2025, by always choosing species suited to their environment and working with local communities. A way for us to honor the wonderful virtues of trees, a real reservoir of biodiversity which is essential for life of our beautiful planet.

Contributing to the Protection of Animal Species

Creating a Suitable Environment

By producing our raw materials with the greatest respect for the living world (agroecology, high mowing, sustainable management of hedges, non-use of herbicides, etc.), we contribute to increasing the number of plant species, encouraging the multiplication of local fauna (insects, earthworms, birds, etc.).

We have also deployed many systems to protect it: reptile hideouts, bat boxes, butterfly and ladybug shelters, fruit tree plantations, creation of a pond, etc.

Protecting Pollinators

Bees are a key link in the cycle of living organisms and that is why we are actively fighting to stop their extinction. Therefore, we have installed 200 beehives on our 60 hectares of organic flower fields or on edges of fields and on all of our sites.  The result? 10 million bees at La Gacilly, fill us with joy by producing nearly 5 tonnes of honey per year. A delight for the plants and for our taste buds. In Morocco, we also support beekeeping in 5 villages by creating beehives.

As well as preserving pollinators, this initiative helps women to diversify their activity and improve their living conditions and to develop their autonomy by providing them with a new source of income.

Offering a Privileged Habitat for Birds

100% of our sites as well as our Botanical Garden are LPO-Certified Biodiversity Refuges (LPO: League for the Protection of Birds).

For the past 11 years, our commitment to this major association has allowed us to preserve the local ecosystem and identify 82 bird species including 58 nesting species, 28 species of odonates (damselfly family), 57 species of butterflies as well as hares, badgers, etc.

The animals are happy and so are we!

Women Caring For The Earth

Supporting the Yves Rocher Foundation also means contributing to the projects of exceptional women who are committed to biodiversity.

Plastic recycling, water management, reforestation, soil regeneration, bio-waste usage, etc. Their actions are many and virtuous. And this year, animal biodiversity is front and center, since the Terre de Femmes International Awards 2022 are dedicated to the subject of “Wild fauna essential for the natural equilibrium”.

We are happy to support the development of their incredible projects!
